Proteus Light & Sound Mind Machine

The Proteus will give you an awe-inspiring experience. To begin, simply select one of the pre-programmed sessions, put on the headphones and Lightframes, and press the start button. The session will gently guide you into other mental states by stimulating your senses with special patterns of sound and synchronized colored lights.

Extraordinary kaleidoscopic patterns of color are seen behind your closed eyelids that dance with thick washes and pulses of sound. This special combination of flickering color and pulsing sound also has an effect on your brainwaves. Geometric patterns shape-shift and color cycle while guiding you through the session toward the mind state you desire.

Your stress from the day is released as your brainwaves begin following the frequencies you are perceiving. Since the frequencies used in the Proteus sessions mimic those found in brainwaves during activities like meditation, dreaming, and deeply focused concentration - you experience and feel them as your brainwaves synchronize to the lights and sound. Your brain begins producing more theta and alpha waves, and less beta waves - what we have during 'busy and scattered thinking' throughout the day.

The Proteus was designed with the first time user in mind, so it is very easy to use.    What is AudioStrobe?   

AudioStrobe technology allows you to use specially encoded music CDs with the Proteus. AudioStrobe music CDs are capable of controlling the lights when played through The Proteus using the included patch cable.

The AudioStrobe technique uses a control signal embedded into the music on the CD. These control signals control different aspects of the Proteus while the music is playing. The artists attempt to create a visual representation of their music so that you can see what the music sounds like while it is playing.

An AudioStrobe CD is included with all Proteus orders so that you can experience this technology. There are a variety of AudioStrobe CDs available for purchase from our site.

Because the signals are mastered at the same time that the CD is, A very precise synchronization of the audio and visual stimulation can be achieved since the signals are mastered together with the CD. AudioStrobe was developed by Mr. Andrzej Slawinski of AudioStrobe GMBH, Germany.

  The Proteus BioPort

Every aspect of the Proteus can be controlled with our ThoughtStream device (sold separately). The light frequency, brightness, color, etc. may be used to provide you with direct feedback regarding changes in your physiology associated with the use of light/sound stimulation--whether it be increased or decreased arousal, etc. Sessions may be created which alternate between light/sound stimulation and biofeedback; this was the approach taken with a popular study which led to significant improvement in college grade point average in those who used this system. The light/sound parameters may be "tuned" in real time to craft highly specific states of consciousness.

Nearly every aspect of the light/sound experience may be changed on a per-segment basis: pulse rates (0-50 hz), the two color channels, which of four audio wave tables, whether the sound is modulated or binaural, etc. You can: import, edit and save your own versions of the 50 programs delivered with Proteus; select, cut and paste groups of them to build large sessions quickly; organize and download them via the Session Manager; turn the LightFrames and audio on and off, etc. And you have memory for more than 2,000 segments!

The Waveform Editor offers unprecedented flexibility in sound creation. Proteus is the only light/sound system on the market today to offer such power. Each of the four waveforms stored in Proteus consists of up to four harmonics, and each harmonic can be its own waveform. Mix sine, square, sawtooth and triangle waveforms, and our unique waveform cross-fading technology generates smooth, analog synth-like sweeps between waveforms at segment boundaries. No more "beep and bleep" audio experiences!
